The Scouts at Whitley Beaumont, (Town End Lane Lepton Huddersfield West Yorkshire HD8 0NA), always keen to develop young people, have given Eden's Forest very kind permission to use their site. This arrangement enables the scouts to contribute to the engagement of new young people with the outdoors. It enables Eden's Forest to support the scouts in the development of facilities, ecology and learning opportunities at their site.
The site is conveniently located between Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Barnsley and Wakefield. Despite its excellent road links, it is very secluded and secure being situated down a private track and surrounded by woodland and farmland. There are a wide range of ecosystems at the site including mixed and deciduous woodland, grassland, streams and a pond providing a multitude of different contexts for learning about the plants and wildlife of the area. This variety of landscape also lends itself very well to designated areas for den building, collecting firewood, team games and artwork. Below are some panoramas of the meeting room field and the games field:
Our site has two fixed firepits, one sheltered by the adjacent woodland and the other surrounded by seating in a small amphitheatre - ideal for storytelling or addressing a group.
The site has a fully equipped kitchen, large meeting room and ladies/ gents toilets in two different locations.
Below is a location map for the site. Detailed directions will be provided in all information packs.
